Diane Fanning, author of eleven true crime books and 6 mystery novels, blogs about writing, reading, crime and observations of life. Sometimes serious, sometimes irreverent.
I was born in Batimore Maryland. I spent my early years in the city and moved out to a suburban/rural area in Baltimore County.
I became aware that I had some writing talent when I was in Miss Gardner's 8th grade English class. I wrote for my high school newspaper and interned at the now-defunct Baltimore News American. Nonetheless, when I went to college, I majored in Chemistry.
I wrote advertising and promotions in radio, television and at an advertising agency. I sold a few free lance articles and personal essays. When I moved to Texas, I started working for non-profit organizations and doing more writing. I started writing full-time in 2006.
When I first heard of the effort to boycott any books or movies connected to Casey Anthony, her family or her defense team, I thought that it was a good idea. Who wanted the person responsible for Caylee Anthony's death or her allies to make money off of it? There were a few people who indicated that I should be donating all the proceeds from my book to a missing child non-profit or to Texas Equusearch. I didn't think they understood my job and how I earned a living but that was okay. If they didn't want to buy my book, that was their choice.
